Big Sioux Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will dedicate its new outdoor flagpole during a ceremony open to the public on Thursday, September 23rd. The ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm at Big Sioux’s squadron building, located at 413 W Second St S, Brookings, SD 57006.
Big Sioux Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol was recently awarded a $500 Walmart Community Grant to purchase a small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS). The sUAS will be able to be used for both aerospace education activities as well as training for emergency services missions.
The color guard team from Big Sioux Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), traveled to Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA, to compete at CAP’s North Central Region Cadet Competition on the weekend of August 20-22, 2021. The cadets forming Big Sioux’s color guard had been practicing for months in preparation for the state and regional competitions.

Several cadets from Big Sioux Composite Squadron marched in the Brookings 4th of July Parade held in downtown Brookings. Senior members from Big Sioux also participated, assisting the cadets with keeping properly hydrated and protected from the sun.
Starting on May 8th and ending on May 13th, Papa Murphy’s held an event for Big Sioux Composite Squadron.
Family members of Big Sioux Composite Squadron’s cadets learned about Civil Air Patrol (CAP)’s cadet program at a “Family Night” hosted by the squadron on Thursday, May 20th, 2021, held at the Brookings Airport. Attendees learned about the cadet program through indoor and outdoor activities.
Big Sioux Composite Squadron recently presented C/Lt Col Glen Glaser of Apple Valley, MN, with a Certificate of Appreciation thanking him for all his work at Big Sioux, as he is graduating from Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program. Glaser was a member of the 130th Composite Squadron in Lakeville, MN, until August 2020, when he left to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. From the 130th Composite Squadron, he transferred to Big Sioux Composite Squadron in Brookings, SD.
Big Sioux Composite Squadron gave their cadets the opportunity to learn about and practice flying sUAS (Small Unmanned Aerial Systems) at their April 22nd and April 29th cadet meetings.
