Big Sioux Composite Squadron Awarded the Quality Cadet Unit Award for 2020

December 27, 2020

Civil Air Patrol recently announced that Big Sioux Squadron completed enough requirements to be awarded the Quality Cadet Unit Award for 2020. The Quality Cadet Unit Award has been awarded annually to cadet units since 2010.

Thank you to both our cadets and senior members for your hard work! Big Sioux Squadron also won the Quality Cadet Unit Award in 2018 and 2019, but we have only had to switch to virtual meetings in 2020. 2020’s Joint Dakota Encampment was also canceled. We have had several new members join Big Sioux Squadron this year (both cadets and senior members!), and unlike many units throughout the nation, we’ve been able to remain active. 2020 has been a successful year for Big Sioux Squadron despite needing to make changes due to COVID-19.

Here is a brief description of the Quality Cadet Unit Award from South Dakota Wing:

The Quality Cadet Unit Award is awarded to any cadet unit that displays strong program fundamentals. The award is purely objective. Cadet and composite squadrons must meet the challenging criteria in the areas of cadet achievement, adult leadership, enrollment, aerospace, emergency services, and outside STEM activities.

It motivates squadrons to pursue goals that will inevitably lead to their having a vibrant Cadet Program.
