Cadets and senior members from Big Sioux Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) presented at the Brookings Kiwanis Club’s meeting on August 19th, 2021.

Senior members Second Lieutenant Rudy Trias and Captain Tyler Gross, Big Sioux’s Commander, presented information about CAP, and cadets First Lieutenant Abigail Williams, Second Lieutenant Lydia Klosterman and Chief Master Sergeant Mitchell Trias presented the colors at the meeting.

Trias and Gross discussed the three primary programs of CAP – cadet programs, aerospace education, and emergency services – and fielded questions from club members about various aspects of CAP. They also discussed working together with the Kiwanis Club in supporting community activities and creating even more experiences for the members in CAP’s youth program (known as cadets).

“It was a great pleasure presenting at the Kiwanis Club this afternoon as well as meeting the Lt. Governor and Lt. Governor-Elect,” said Trias. “We were able to gain a better understanding of our respective organizations. We’re excited about the opportunity to work with each other in the future.”

Brookings Kiwanis Club President, Shirley Deethardt, on behalf of the Kiwanis members in attendance, expressed thanks to the senior members and cadets for their informative presentation. “We all learned so much today,” said Deethardt. “Although most of us have heard about the Civil Air Patrol, we did not realize the scope of its mission and the vital role CAP plays in our communities and country. We look forward to opportunities to interact with CAP in the future."
