Big Sioux Composite Squadron Marches in Brookings 4th of July Parade
Several cadets from Big Sioux Composite Squadron marched in the Brookings 4th of July Parade held in downtown Brookings. Senior members from Big Sioux also participated, assisting the cadets with keeping properly hydrated and protected from the sun.
Big Sioux’s Color Guard marched just behind the local VFW’s Color Guard, who led the parade. Five cadets – C/Airman Simon Risty, C/Airman First Class Gabriel Risty, C/Airman Levi Murray, C/Chief Master Sergeant Emily Williams and C/Chief Master Sergeant Mitchell Trias – formed Big Sioux’s Color Guard. C/Airman Joshua Lindell and C/Airman Clover Naughton marched with Big Sioux’s banner behind the Color Guard.
One of Big Sioux’s senior members, 2nd Lieutenant Emily Trias, passed out candy to parade attendees with the assistance of a few potential future cadets and 2nd Lieutenant Rudy Trias drove one of Big Sioux’s vans. Senior members Capt. Tyler Gross (Big Sioux’s Commander), SM Malissia Lindell, 1st Lieutenant Jodi Williams, and 2nd Lieutenant Destiny Jorenby assisted cadets throughout the parade.

Big Sioux Composite Squadron meets every Thursday at 6:30 PM at 413 W Second St S, Brookings, SD 57006. South Dakota Wing, CAP, has over 400 members with units based in Brookings, Custer, Miller/Faulkton, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Spearfish and Tea. The wing can deploy its six aircraft, ground teams, and small search drones to assist in emergency response and other support to local, state, tribal and federal agencies.
